New Zealand Election Results

The 2011 New Zealand election results are in. A few surprises, but over-all nothing that will make any real impact on the way things have been.

Phil Goff lead a Labour party into the ground. As I predicted early on, by not replacing him while there was still time to run an effective campaign Labour admitted defeat. No doubt the few that got in are now fighting for the position of leader of the opposition for three years of easy money.

It would be arrogant for asset sales to go ahead when 80% of the country said they didn’t want it – Phil Goff

There is an interesting statement from the leader (or is it ex leader) of the Labour party. This is the same arrogant party that pushed through civil unions, anti smacking laws, and the like against the wishes of 80% of the population.  Given that the Conservative party didn’t make it to parliament we are once again in a position where the voice of the people will be over ruled by our democratically elected dictatorships.

Act paid the price for letting Don Brash buy the party. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Brash then went ahead and alienated his members with some absurd statements like he supported the legalization of marijuana.

Winston Peters is back with an absurd amount of members. Obviously he picked up the protest vote against National that weren’t prepared to give their vote to Phil Goff. And to be fair, Winston is an astute person who always manages to pick up on the hot topics each election year in his campaign. It is a pity that he also never comes good on any of his promises. We won’t hear from him again (except for the odd snide remark) until the next election.

The Green party had a record year, also picking up the protest votes at Labour’s cost. We can look forward to them trying to push through more social engineering and minority policy wasting tax payer money again. Arrogance as Phil Goff would say.

The most telling result was the referendum on the voting system itself. The absurd result where one party (the National party) gained more than half the votes is now being held hostage by a handful of minority parties (we are talking 1- 3 elected members each) to be able to form a government. Yet over half the voters think this is an acceptable system. Granted, the majority of people voted 3 years ago for less politicians and not one of the alternatives this year accommodated those wishes … as Phil Goff would say – it is just arrogance. But that aside, MMP is a joke.  Even Phil Goff contradicted himself in the last One News leaders debate when one minute he criticized the system that would allow Act to get in by strategic voting to support National, and two minutes later he was heralding the value of MMP and saying he would vote for no change (well no change kicked him good and hard so there is some justice in that).

What this mean? John Key is free to sell off the countries assets whether we want him to or not. And it will be three years before we get any say in the way we want the country run (which of course will be no say, unless we elect a party who is going to change the system not just the faces running the scam ..err… system).

NZ Not Likely To Be In Double Dip Recession

Prime-minister  John Key says a double recession for New Zealand is possible but unlikely.

And this is the man running the country.

The question is whether he has stuck his head in the sand, or is he deliberately lying to the population at large? Does he really think that a bankrupt US is going to have no effect on our economy? Not to mention Europe and various other countries in financial crisis.

Even Australia that was looking positively chipper compared to the rest of the world has been hit hard with natural disaster after national disaster. It is unlikely that their economy will be quite as buoyant as forecasts 6 months ago might have predicted.

Somehow New Zealand is going to survive the fallout of global financial catastrophe unscathed. After all, when have we ever suffered because the rest of the world is in financial difficulty – well since last year I mean.  Really John, do you think we are as stupid as you look – acting “camp” on a fashion runway?

On the other hand we have Bill English warning of slashing cuts in the public sector because the time is up for “waffle.”

I fully agree with him. There is that much bureaucracy any more that nothing can be done. For every person assigned to do a job there are three people doing paperwork to make sure that the worker is not allowed to hurt themselves. Never-mind all the other people justifying their job by monitoring the three people doing paperwork.

But here is the rub, we have a politician pontificating about waffle. Am I the only one that sees the moron ..err..  oxymoron… here? We could easily loose two thirds of the politicians without the effectiveness of the parliamentary system suffering any.

So while there is no fear of a double dip recession we thought we ought to lay off a bunch of public servants. Rather a coincidence given that the eleven States in the US plunging into bankruptcy are doing exactly the same thing.

KiwiSaver

How does a Government get around the fact that it has a bankrupt pension fund?

Easy. They start a new one and name it KiwiSaver.

After being signed up to this scam called KiwiSaver by an “employer” who I hadn’t actually worked for in recent years, I was feeling a little ticked.  This person for whatever reason signed me up after making a submission to our Inland Revenue Department (IRD). The fact that he neglected to pay me the amount in question for work I never did doesn’t seem to matter to IRD.

So I have been signed up to KiwiSaver. Now it is up to me unsign myself. I am supposed to do this every time I start a new job within a couple of weeks. Which is a little hard since I didn’t know I wasn’t being paid the wages submitted to IRD at the time. I only just found out months later.  Now I have to make a submission that is examined on a case-by-case basis.

If this isn’t a case of people creating job security I don’t know what is. It is costing the country thousands of dollars to keep signing people like me up for me to unsign days later. This is Government efficiency at its best!

So how do we solve this problem.

Well it appears that we make KiwiSaver compulsory – that will solve the unsubscribing issue, and it will create a fund that the Government can borrow more money against to pay the retirement fund of an aging population who’s retirement fund the Government has squandered.

This is just another case of communism alive and well in our parliamentary system. It shows that our “center right” Government is so center right it is in the middle of the communist left. I predict that a genuine right leaning party will be the undoing of our current Government – in like manner to the role Sir Robert ‘Bob’ Jones played. The difference being that it is highly likely they will be elected this time around.

I am tired of Governments mismanaging my money and I would like to manage my own and I believe I am not alone.

So go ahead and make my day John Key – it may be your last chance.
